If you are having problems with your trees, call Gordon Pro Tree Service. We would be happy to inspect every tree in your yard and recommend solutions to help the trees grow better. One problem could be that you are overwatering your trees. It’s easy to do this because the soil on top of the ground dries out so you assume the soil underneath the ground is dry, as well. This is not always the case. You may have plenty of water underground and watering the trees again could be too excessive. Unfortunately, this can create problems with your trees including killing them. Let’s talk more about this below.
Even if the ground is dry on top, stick your finger or a shovel into the ground to see if the soil underneath is soggy. If it is, your trees’ root systems have plenty of water. This is especially true if you have mulch around the trees. Part of the reason why it’s a good idea to label is that it keeps the water in the ground. In other words, the water does not dry up as quickly and you do not need to water your trees as frequently. Soggy soil is always a sign that the trees are overwater.
Another sign that your trees are receiving too much water can be tricky and confusing. You may notice that your tree leaves are turning yellow or brown and getting brittle. It’s only natural to think that the trees are not getting enough water if the leaves are too dry. Unfortunately, this isn’t what is happening. The reason why the leaves are brittle is that the root system is unable to provide enough oxygen to the leaves because it is being inundated with water. In essence, you are drowning it.
Finally, as we mentioned above, overwatering your trees may cause early deaths. This is because the trees can be attacked by fungal growth that can eat away at them and their root systems. If your trees are dying, definitely give us a call. We can inspect the trees and the ground around them to determine what is going on. It’s possible that you are overwatering them and they are being killed by fungus or that you have an infestation of wood-boring pests.
